Costa Rica Recap
Buenos dias muchachos y muchachas! I’m back from gorgeous Costa Rica, where I was relaxing for eight whole days. Yeah, I love Costa Rica so much that my dad and I are having a house built there. With any luck, it’ll be finished by the first of next year, so I’m stoked about that.
I rode across the longest zip line in the country. And they had some great surf while I was down there, too, some of it head high or bigger and water temps around 80 degrees. I never claimed to be any surfing pro or anything (I’m not well versed in aerials and the like) I just ride the faces and throw in the occasional cut back every now and then.
Spending all the time in the water, I had to be a little cautious because of some run off in the tide. They said the water wasn’t dangerous, it just didn’t look all that great. Like when I was boarding, I’d make sure to keep my face and chin out of the surf ‘cause (I’m not gonna lie) it looked a little disgusting, all brown and stuff, not the crystal clear blue you might think of when you think of tropical beaches.
The cool thing though was that locals were on their tiny beach with bags picking up Styrofoam and other kinds of trash. It reminded me how simple it can be sometimes to make an effort toward improving our oceans. If everyone chips in just a little bit, I think we could change the tide for the better.
I’ll keep doing what I can to help the cause – I’m participating in an awareness event in Long Beach, Calif. in a couple months. More on that later, but I hope to see some of you California racers out there showing your support and love for the oceans.
