About Oceana
Oceana is the largest international group focused 100% on ocean conservation. Although it has offices in North America, South America and Europe, its people work together as a singular team, united in their mission of protecting the world's oceans. Oceana's campaign teams are made up of scientists, economists, lawyers and ocean advocates that are tackling the most urgent issues currently facing our oceans:
- Seafood contamination - pollution has caused our seafood to become contaminated with mercury, which can be especially dangerous for women and children.
- Destructive trawling - heavy nets plow the ocean floor, obliterating everything in their path including corals.
- Dirty fishing - commercial fishing vessels scoop up massive amounts of marine creatures from the ocean, including wasted, unintentional catch that is thrown back into the water, dead or dying.
Although Oceana is only five years old, it has already achieved tremendous victories. Its online supporter base of more than 300,000 WaveMakers, representing over 150 countries, has helped to turn the tide on ocean destruction. Through this partnership with Aaron, Oceana hopes to grow that number and harness the power of the swimming community to fight to save our oceans.
